KATE’S OFFICIAL STORY
I have earned thousands of meaningful media placements, ghostwritten hundreds of bylines and speeches, and trained dozens of senior and rising executives in effective, authentic storytelling.
There’s a reason my clients say I make the hard parts easier.
After nearly two decades building effective, action-oriented communications in Fortune 500, nonprofit and agency roles, I founded Haranis & Company help clients with life-changing businesses accelerate innovation through powerful communication.
From my start at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to my most recent role leading corporate public relations at Boston Scientific, I shine when I get to craft stories that move audiences past awareness to inspire action.
Put another way: years of fundraising, media relations and business development didn’t just teach me to redirect rejection—they honed my ability to move stakeholders to yes.
My extensive advocacy and philanthropic experience includes chairing the board of the Children's Trust of Massachusetts, the Commonwealth’s only quasi-public agency focused on preventing child abuse and neglect.
I have previously served in leadership roles with the Environmental Business Council and Junior League of Massachusetts, as professional mentor to the Public Relations Student Society of America Emerson College chapter, and enjoyed additional engagements with 826 Boston, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and The Home for Little Wanderers. I received my Bachelor of Science in political communication from Emerson College.
When I’m not working, having family dance parties, or connecting with friends, I’m probably headed to or from the Pilates studio.
GET Story Strategy THAT Solves Problems
By getting into your head, deeply understanding your objectives, connecting missing pieces and getting into the heads of your audiences, I will help you tell your stories loud and clear in your own voice where the right folks need to hear them.
When we need deeper insight from another subject matter expert, I can tap into my extensive network to bring in the right talent, laser-focused on your needs.
and have fun doing it.
people trust people
I believe in human-led storytelling because it’s more effective, and it’s also more fun. You don’t owe your audiences every detail, but transparency and personality generate credibility and connection.
And when it comes to my own story, what you see is what you get. For example…
-
I take a “method acting” approach to PR. Drawing on my theatre background, I get deep into your head—and your audience’s—to craft stories that stick.
-
Not only am I partial to handwritten notes, but I keep my most important reminders inked in the form of my (many) tattoos! Each one has a story behind it.
-
Growing up, I made four international moves in five years. Adaptability to new cultures and languages (literally and metaphorically) is my secret weapon. And I’m still proud of my GCSE results.
Powered by connection
From former journalists who can turn around fast copy to leading executives to weigh in on change management, public policy and regulatory challenges, our network is your strategic advantage.
We stand ready to build a full-service team to meet your needs, but most clients prefer the laser-focused value-add of a few hours of expertise when it’s most needed. My relationships mean you get a shortcut to the greatest talent with the strongest team ethos—and when needed, access to a vast, global network of other specialists and vendors.
